Film for everyone

Filmaktiv launched project Film svima (Film for Everyone) back in 2016 which is continuously implemented in partnership with Udruga gluhih i nagluhih Primorsko-goranske županije (The Association for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Primorje-Gorski kotar County – UGIN) with the aim of adapting audio-visual culture for hearing impaired people and promoting inclusive practices in the field of culture. The project contains three basic units: films translation and adaptation; public screenings and promotion and creating Film svima Media library of films adapted to the Croatian sign language.

Project’s extension called Film svima svugdje (Film for Everyone Everywhere) was created in 2020 with the aim of bringing inclusive audio-visual culture, media culture and Croatian sign language to deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing children and young people regardless of their location.

Through Film for Everyone project’s implementation, Filmaktiv is trying to contribute to the opening of media content to everyone who don’t have opportunity to equally participate and also to create positive climate for placing inclusive culture as a norm of civilisation. Furthermore, Filmaktiv tends to encourage other subjects in the field of culture as well as the wider community for conducting similar activities.

The fifth edition of Film for everyone – film cycle adapted to hearing impaired people will be held in September of 2020.

Film for everyone 2019.

The fourth edition of  Film for everyone – film cycle adapted to hearing impaired people was held on Wednesday, 26th of September, and Friday, 27th of September, 2019. in spaces of Filodrammatica and The Association for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Primorje-Gorski kotar County.

Program Film for everyone includes relevant Croatian documentary and fiction films available for everyone’s enjoyment regardless of hearing abilities. This year’s program included children’s film My granddad is from Mars/Moj dida je pao s Marsa created in 2019. by director duo Dražen Žarković and Marina Andrea Škop and produced by Studio Dim; film Plenumovie directed by Marta Batinić, Ana Jurčić, and Sanja Kapidžić in 2015. produced by Filmaktiv, and directors’ Rajko Grlić film success from 2016. Constitution of Republic Croatia/Ustav Republike Hrvatske. This multiple awarded film was produced by Interfilm and co-produced by In Film (CZ), Revolution Production (MK), Sever&Sever (SI), Film&Music Entertainment (UK), NP7 (HR), and Croatian radio-television (HRT).

As well as in the previous festival’s editions, screenings of children’s films were followed by a short workshop of Croatian sign language guided by Ivona Križić.

Program is realized in collaboration with the Association for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Primorje-Gorski kotar County, Croatian audio-visual center, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Foundation Kultura Nova, National foundation for civil society development and European social fund.

Film for everyone 2018.

The third edition of Film for everyone was held on Friday, 28th of September, 2018. in the space of the Association for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Primorje-Gorski kotar County (UGIN, Rijeka).

Films screened were Ježeva kuća/Hedgehog’s Home directed by Eva Cvijanović (Bonobostudio + National Film Board of Canada); BFF directed by Sanja Marjanović (Filmaktiv) and Ples bijelog ljeta/White summer dance directed by Goran Grey and Matija Makotoichi Tomić (BAKA Productions), translated to Croatian sign language and adapted to deaf and hearing-impaired people.

Along with the screenings, interpreters of Croatian sign language Ivona Križić and Damir Herega taught the basics of sign language to the participants.

The program is realized in collaboration with the Association for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Primorje-Gorski kotar County and with the financial support of Rijeka City, Croatian audio-visual center, and Foundation Kultura Nova.

Film for everyone 2017.

The second edition of Film for everyone was held on Wednesday and Friday, 28th and 29th of September, 2017. in the space of Filodrammatica’s great hall.

The program started with the screening of  Waiting point/Polazište za čekanje, a documentary film created by Rijeka director Maša Drndić in 2013. and produced by Filmaktiv. The second day began with this year’s successful film Uzbuna na zelenom vrhu/Shakeup on the Green Top directed by Čejen Černić and produced by Kinorama. The Festival closed with the screening of an awarded documentary Lijepo mi je s tobom znaš/It’s nice with you, you know directed by Eva Kraljević and produced by Hulahop.

Film for everyone 2016.

The first phase of the project began with the screening of film Naseljenici – naši novi susjedi s puškama/Settlers – our new neighbors with guns directed by Barbara Babačić and produced by Filmaktiv; this time presented in a version adapted to hearing impaired individuals. The screening was held on Monday, 23rd of January, 2016.  at 18 hours in Filodrammatica and was visited by the director.

Further development of the project includes the continuation of translation and adaptation of films, the creation of free use media library, and the encouragement of cultural workers to adapt their content for consumption across all social groups.
