Documentary Filmmaking School

The Documentary Filmmaking School is an intensive six months program that integrates theory and practice and transmits knowledge and skills needed for the realization of original documentary film to the participants with the support of local and guest mentors.

Participants work on their documentary film ( lasting up to10 minutes ) for six months through five specially designed film exercises. Exercises are constructed in a way that slowly and thoroughly introduces participants to the film world using equally theory and their own work. Participants go through all fazes of filmmaking from the script, location search, space, characters, editing, postproduction, and distribution of their work. School accentuates participants’ development of an individual style of expression.

Besides the practical segment, an important part of the curriculum is reserved for screening and analysis of foreign and domestic documentary films and guest authors which transmit through lectures and individual consultations with the participants their experiences in filmmaking, as well as mistakes and challenges they encountered during all, fazes of production.

Besides permanent mentors, individuals professionally involved in all aspects of the film, forming Filmaktiv team (Marin Lukanović, Maša Drndić, Sanja Kapidžić, Sara Blažić, Sara Salomon), the school accommodates guest mentors (Dana Budisavljević, Ivan Ramljak, Ivana Todorović) that help participants with their exercises. Participants also have a chance to attend two masterclasses – Sound and postproduction of sound mentored by Ivo Vičić and Light in film mentored by Boris Poljak. At the very end producer, Morana Komljenović holds a workshop Distribute This where participants have a chance to develop a distribution model for their film.

School is held from January 16th to November 16th, 2020. and the teachings take place on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday in Mini Art-kino.
